Good to Know

Frequently asked questions.

Answers to the questions that we hear the most before a project kicks off. Can't find what you're looking for? Get in touch; we're happy to talk it through.

01

Working with us

How long does a project take, start to finish?
It depends on scope, but most projects run one to three weeks from brief to final delivery. Quick product shoots can turn around faster; larger campaigns, industrial documentation or brand films take longer. We'll give you a realistic timeline once we understand your requirements.
Is a deposit/advance required to book a shoot?
Yes. An advance confirms your shoot date and secures our studio and crew time, with the balance due based on a pre-arranged schedule, usually based on milestones. We'll walk you through the specifics when we send your quote.
Are revisions included?
Yes. Reasonable rounds of revisions are built into every project. We want the final images or film to be something you're genuinely happy with, and we'll work with you until they are.
Do you work with agencies, or only directly with brands?
Both. We regularly work directly with brands as well as alongside design and marketing agencies managing a client's account, and we're happy to coordinate with your existing creative or marketing team.
Can you handle both photography and video in the same project?
Yes. We're a photography and video studio under one roof, so we can capture stills and film in the same session. Planning both together saves time and cost, and keeps a consistent look across your images and your video. Of course, each comes with unique challenges that must be addressed independently.
How long has ColoursAlive been in business?
Since 2007. That's more than 18 years of commercial photography and film across product, industrial, eCommerce, corporate and advertising work. The experience means we can plan a shoot efficiently and anticipate what your project needs before it becomes a problem. Susheel has done commercial photoshoots since 2003, while working at other companies.

Pricing & quotes

How much does a shoot cost?
It depends on the scope: number of products or subjects, locations, whether it's studio or on-site, and how much post-production is involved. We don't publish flat rates because pricing genuinely varies from project to project. Send us a brief and we'll come back with a clear quote.
What information do you need to give me a quote?
A short brief goes a long way: what you're shooting, roughly how many items or subjects, where, and how the images or film will be used (web, print, social, etc.). The more detail you share, the more accurate the quote.
Do you provide GST invoices?
Yes. We're GST-registered and issue proper GST invoices for every project, so the work is straightforward for your accounts and claimable input where applicable.
03

Studio & location

Where is your studio?
We're based at Fortune Studios in Pallikaranai, Chennai: a dedicated 36×24×12.5ft shooting floor plus a second studio used for staging and setup, totalling over 1,800 sq.ft of working space.
Do you shoot on location, or only in-studio?
Both. Product and portrait work is often best suited to the studio, where lighting and backgrounds are fully controlled. Architecture, industrial documentation, events and facility films are usually shot on location, at your site. However, certain products can only be photographed on location at your showrooms, or factories. In such cases, we bring the studio to you.
Do you travel outside Chennai for shoots?
Yes. We regularly shoot across Tamil Nadu and pan-India for the right project. Travel and logistics are scoped and added to the quote. Let us know your requirements beforehand, and we'll make our way to you.
04

Deliverables & usage rights

What files do we receive after a shoot?
Edited, high-resolution JPEGs, PNGs, and TIFFs, ready for both web and print use (or images at any other specifications you give us). We handle the retouching and colour work before delivery, so you get finished files, not raw captures.
Do you provide RAW files?
We don't hand over RAW files. Instead you receive full-resolution, lossless images as TIFFs alongside JPGs, processed in Capture One Pro and Adobe Photoshop for accurate colour and sharpness. In practice these finished files are what almost every use needs, from web to large-format print, without the specialised software and processing that RAW workflows require.
How is video delivered?
Video is delivered as the final edited film in ready-to-use MP4 (H.264) files (unless otherwise requested), delivered in Full HD or up to 4K depending on the project. Where you need it, we can also supply platform-specific cuts and aspect ratios, such as square or vertical versions for social. All this must be discussed before confirming the shoot specifications.
Who owns the rights to the images or video?
Once delivered, you get full commercial usage rights to the work, free to use it across your website, social, print and advertising, wherever your business needs it. ColoursAlive/Susheel Chandradhas retains the copyright to the visuals. This is standard practice.
