Bicycle Photography
Overview

Bicycle photography may seem easy, but it isn't. We've found out the hard way — by photographing hundreds of cycles in the studio, outdoors, on the road, at speed — sometimes producing up to 100 photos per bicycle. There are certain conventions, certain ideal angles, and focal lengths that make a bicycle look exceptional… and then there are other angles that make the product look rather strange.

With more commuters and health-conscious people taking to cycling on a daily basis, India and the world have seen a proliferation of cycle brands. Having photographed hundreds of two-wheelers across categories — POSST, eLife, Waltx Trail, Triad M1, NUZE i1, Pedaleze, Montra Helicon and more — we know what designers, manufacturers and marketers need.

Photographing a product on-site is possible, but rarely ideal. Given the choice we prefer to photograph your bicycle or e-bike in our studio to maximise the types of images we deliver: clean catalogue shots, styled hero images, detail studies, product detailer videos, and brand films. We are also a full-service stills and video studio — most bicycle clients book both in a coordinated production to keep brand language consistent across everything they publish.

What we shoot

02

Why choose us

A long-running specialism, not a side service
Bicycle photography has been at the core of ColoursAlive's work since early in our history. POSST Bicycles, TI Cycles, Waltx, Montra, eLife, Pedaleze, NUZE — the list of brands we've worked with reflects a genuine depth of category experience. We know what a buyer looks for, what a designer needs to see, and what a marketing team will use. That familiarity means quicker briefings and fewer surprises on shoot day.
Studio built to take the bike
Our main shooting floor at Fortune Studios is 36ft × 24ft × 12.5ft with an 8ft × 4ft service door. Bicycles, e-bikes, cargo bikes and even three-wheelers roll straight in, and a second, smaller in-house studio gives us staging space when a shoot runs large. Black and white seamless concrete floors are the two most-used backgrounds in bicycle photography — both are in-house, permanent, and never involve torn paper or visible seams. We are set up for the brief before the bike arrives.
Stills and video from a single production
Many of our bicycle clients book stills and video in the same session — product detailer clips, launch teasers and brand films alongside the catalogue shots. A coordinated brief means consistent framing, lighting and brand language across everything you publish, and a more efficient shoot day than booking two separate productions.
Outdoor and action photography across Tamil Nadu
For campaigns requiring road, trail or urban environments, we organise location shoots with riders across Tamil Nadu. We handle logistics, safety, permissions where needed, and the technical demands of fast-moving subjects in uncontrolled light. Location work is typically booked alongside studio sessions as part of a full launch package.

How it works

01
Brief & Shot List
We begin with the bike model, target audience, and intended use for the imagery — marketplace listing, brand campaign, dealer network, social. A shot list is agreed and signed off before shoot day. No surprises.
02
Studio Preparation
The bicycle arrives at our Pallikaranai studio clean and fully assembled. We stage lighting and choose backgrounds before the first frame — white seamless for marketplace, black concrete for brand work, or specific set styling for a campaign look.
03
Photography
We work through the shot list systematically: hero side profile, three-quarter front and rear, detail macro work, component close-ups. We shoot tethered so you can review every angle in real time and call adjustments on the spot.
04
Post-Production
Colour correction, background cleanup, sharpening and spot removal. Detail shots receive additional micro-adjustment work. All outputs are prepared in the required formats, dimensions and aspect ratios for your intended platforms.
05
Delivery
Finals delivered via cloud link (Dropbox or WeTransfer) with consistent naming conventions and all required file types. Standard turnaround is 7–10 days; express options are available for launch-critical work.

Common questions

Do you shoot e-bikes differently?
The brief is similar, but e-bikes need extra attention to motor housing, battery integration and frame geometry — areas where buyers spend time comparing. We also pay closer attention to cable routing and charge port positioning. We adjust the shot list accordingly, and if you have specific model details to highlight, tell us during briefing.
Can you shoot at our facility?
Yes — but we strongly prefer studio for hero photography. Our studio is set up and optimised before the bike arrives; on-site work involves more variables and typically produces less consistent results. We will come on-site for assembly-line photography, dealer-network content, or location-specific campaign imagery where it makes more sense.
Do you produce video alongside stills?
Yes. Product detailer videos, launch teasers, and full brand films are all in-house. Many of our bicycle clients book stills and video as a single coordinated production — see the film samples above. Tell us during briefing if you want video and we'll scope it into the same shoot day where possible.
How many bicycles can you photograph in a day?
Typically 2–3 bicycles per day for full hero coverage — multiple angles, detail shots, clean background and styled work. For catalogue-only work on a single background, output runs faster. Large-format cargo bikes or three-wheelers are slower. We'll give you a realistic estimate when you share the shot list.
What does a bicycle photography brief typically include?
Shot list (angles required), background preference (white, black, on-location), styling requirements (with rider, without, lifestyle context), and any specific detail areas or components to cover. We'll help you scope this if you're new to commissioning photography — just tell us where the images will be used.
Do you shoot cycles outdoors?
Yes — road rides, trail environments, and urban locations across Tamil Nadu. Outdoor shoots are typically booked as part of a campaign package alongside studio work. We handle rider logistics and permits where needed.
