Commercial photography is photography made to do a job for a business: sell a product, win a tender, explain a process, introduce a leadership team, fill a catalogue. The brief is commercial rather than personal, the images are licensed for business use, and the work is judged on whether the business outcome improves. ColoursAlive has produced commercial photography in Chennai since 2007, from a dedicated studio in Pallikaranai and on location across India.
Businesses arriving here usually know they need professional images and are less certain which kind. Commercial photography is an umbrella covering several distinct disciplines, each with its own techniques, timelines and costs: advertising and campaign imagery, catalogue and marketplace photography, corporate portraits and workplace coverage, and industrial and facility documentation. Most briefs combine two or three of them.
A single supplier across those disciplines is worth more than the sum of the individual shoots. One photographer who knows a brand's colour, lighting and file standards produces a catalogue set, a campaign image and a leadership portrait that look like they belong to the same company, which is exactly what a website, a brochure and an investor deck need them to do.

Why choose ColoursAlive for commercial photography
Commercial photography, discipline by discipline
Commercial photography splits into disciplines that look similar from outside and behave very differently in practice. Choosing the right one is the difference between imagery that earns its cost and imagery that merely exists.
Advertising and campaign photography is the creative end. The purpose is persuasion, so the image is built rather than recorded: lighting designed for drama, styling planned around a concept, and retouching that finishes the idea. Output is low and value is high, since a single campaign frame may run on hoardings, in print and across a launch. Read more on the product photography page.
Catalogue and marketplace photography is the volume end, and the purpose is accuracy rather than persuasion. A listing image stands in for physically handling the product, so colour must be true, backgrounds consistent and marketplace specifications met exactly. Per-image cost falls sharply with quantity, which is why catalogue work is planned as a batch. The eCommerce photography page covers listing requirements in detail.
Corporate and people photography covers headshots, leadership portraits, team pictures and workplace coverage. The technical demands are modest and the human demands are not: most executives dislike being photographed, and a usable portrait depends on the photographer being quick, calm and decisive on a schedule that rarely allows a second attempt. See the corporate photography page.
Industrial and facility photography is location work carried out inside live operations, where machinery cannot be moved, production cannot pause and safety rules decide where a tripod stands. Mixed factory lighting has to be controlled and colour-managed across sodium, LED and daylight in a single frame. Details sit on the industrial photography page.
Most real commercial briefs draw on more than one of these. A manufacturer launching a product typically needs campaign frames for the launch, clean packshots for the catalogue, facility images for the tender document, and portraits for the about page. Planning those together, from one shot list, is both cheaper and more coherent than commissioning four separate jobs across a year.
