Corporate Video Production in Chennai: Process, Timelines and What Drives Cost

Most companies commission a corporate video a handful of times a decade, which means most people briefing one are doing it for the first time. The process then feels opaque: quotes vary wildly, timelines seem long, and it is hard to tell what you are paying for. Having produced corporate films in Chennai for companies from foundries to golf resorts, here is the honest map of the territory.

The stages, and why each one exists

  1. Brief and concept. Before anything is filmed, the real question gets answered: who is this video for, and what should they do after watching it? A film for a trade-show wall, a recruitment page and an investor deck are three different films, even for the same company. Skipping this stage is how videos end up “covering everything” and moving no one.
  2. Script and storyboard. The script is the cheapest place to make changes, and the most expensive place to skip them. A one-day reshoot costs real money; rewriting a paragraph costs nothing. Approve the script carefully and the rest of the project runs smoothly.
  3. Pre-production. Locations scouted and permissions arranged, shoot days scheduled around your operations, interviewees prepared, shot lists built. For factory and industrial shoots this stage carries extra weight: safety constraints, shift timings and which machinery will actually be running on shoot day all shape what can be filmed.
  4. The shoot. Typically one to three days for a corporate film. A small, experienced crew moves faster and disrupts your workplace less than a large one, and disruption is a real cost that never appears on quotes.
  5. Edit, review, delivery. The edit assembles the film; music, graphics, colour grading and sound mixing finish it. Reviews work best in defined rounds, with feedback consolidated into one list per round. Delivery should include every format you need: the master, web and social cuts, and versions sized for wherever the film will live.

Realistic timelines

From approved brief to delivered film, a typical corporate video takes four to eight weeks. Script and pre-production take longer than clients expect, and the edit takes longer than everything else. It can compress when it must, but compressed schedules move cost, because they displace other work. If your film has a fixed event date, start the conversation at least two months out.

What actually drives the cost

  • Shoot days. The single biggest lever. Crew, equipment and logistics are day-rated, so a tightly planned single-day shoot is the most efficient corporate film there is.
  • Locations. Each additional location adds travel, setup and teardown. Multiple sites across the city or state add days.
  • Script and voiceover. Professional scripting, voice talent, and multiple language versions each add scope. Tamil and English dual delivery is a common and worthwhile line item here in Chennai.
  • Graphics and animation. Simple titles and lower-thirds are standard. Animated explainers, 3D product sequences and data visualisation are their own production track.
  • Revision rounds. Defined rounds keep budgets honest. Unlimited revisions do not exist; they are just unpriced until they arrive on an invoice.

The pattern here mirrors what we wrote about product photography pricing: the quote is a function of identifiable decisions, and a studio that asks detailed questions before quoting is protecting your budget, not padding it.

Choosing a production partner, and our advantage here

We wrote a full guide to choosing a corporate video maker covering portfolios, red flags and the questions worth asking. The short version: watch their previous corporate work all the way through, ask who will actually direct your shoot, and get scope, revision rounds and delivery formats in writing.

One structural advantage worth understanding: ColoursAlive comes from a design and advertising background, and we handle photography and video under one roof. For a company refreshing its communications, one production partner shooting stills and film in the same sessions is materially cheaper and more consistent than two vendors covering the same ground twice.
